Fair Trade Tuna Launches in the US Market at Seafood Expo North America
Blueyou launches American distribution partnerships for its Fair Trade Tuna initiative from the Maldives, bringing pole & line caught tuna to US retail and foodservice channels.
From the Maldives to America
During the Seafood Expo North America in Boston, Blueyou launched American distribution partnerships with Envisible and Arkk Food for its Fair Trade Tuna initiative from the Maldives.
These distributors will supply shelf-stable tuna products and packing solutions for private label retail partnerships throughout retail and foodservice channels across the United States.
The unique story behind pole & line tuna from Maldives' fishing communities resonated strongly with US buyers looking for transparent, responsible sourcing.
A Story of Tradition and Sustainability
Maldivian pole and line tuna fishing is one of the most sustainable fishing methods in the world. Each fish is caught one at a time, eliminating bycatch and protecting marine ecosystems. The method has been practiced by Maldivian fishing communities for generations.
Fair Trade Impact
The Fair Trade certification ensures that fishing communities receive fair compensation and that a premium is invested back into community development projects:
- Fair wages: Fishers receive above-market prices for their catch
- Community development: Premium funds support education, healthcare, and infrastructure
- Environmental stewardship: Fishing practices are monitored for long-term sustainability
- Full traceability: Every can of tuna is traceable back to the fishing vessel and community
US Market Opportunity
The US represents the world's largest canned tuna market, and consumer demand for ethically sourced seafood continues to grow. Our partnership with Envisible and Arkk Food positions Fair Trade Tuna to meet this demand with a product that delivers on both quality and impact.
